More and more organizations strive to obtain an ISO 9001 certificate. ISO 9001 is internationally the best known certificate when it comes to organizational quality. This is one of the reasons why ISO 9001 is so popular. However, implementing a quality managementsystem (QMS) based on the requirements of this particular ISO standard, often appears to be quite difficult for organizations. Therefore, organizations frequently seek support from experienced consultancy firms. In this article we will discuss the advantages of ISO 9001 as well as the different types of English ISO 9001 support that CertificeringsAdvies Nederland (CAN) offers.

ISO 9001 advantages

Setting up a QMS based on ISO 9001 has several aspects that could benefit your organization. 

First, ISO 9001 provides a basis for organizational development. This allows you to organize your business processes more efficiently. This makes it a tool to direct the organization and to ensure that you as an organization do the things that you need to do.  

The processes within the organizations provide frameworks and direction for work. By using the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act), you continuously improve and ensure that you are in control of all parts of your organization. 

Focusing on quality and efficiency is important for your employees as well. By making the business processes transparent and insightful for employees, there is less ambiguity, and it is clearer what they need to do. Employees notice that they too are an important part of the organization and its objectives. Research shows that companies with motivated employees are much more successful. 

Customer satisfaction is an important part of ISO 9001. The QMS is also supported by a critical look at the organization’s definitions and processes. In addition, it helps to fulfill the customer’s requirements and accept the terms.  

As mentioned, ISO 9001 allows you to look critically and integrally at the organization and its design. This may mean that the organizational structure or various processes may have to be adjusted on several points in order to achieve profits and to organize the organization more efficiently. Although these will generally not be major changes, they can be experienced as inconvenient. It is important to remember that these changes will ensure an improvement in the longer term.

In our approach we do not take the standard only, but rather take your organization as a starting point. We are focusing on a practical and structural approach which is always in collaboration with you and your colleagues. We work on optimizing processes in accordance with the ISO 9001 guidelines. But we can all do that in English too! Our advisors can work in an English-speaking environment and all documents that will be presented are also in English so that a QMS will ultimately be implemented in English. 

Different types of ISO 9001 support

There are different ways in which we can support you with your needs regarding ISO 9001, a combination of these different options is also possible. Our ISO 9001 support could consist of:

Advise

  • Advising and coaching: We provide guidance on the main points (coaching), while you handle the execution in-house.
  • Advising and executing: We advise and set up the management system and its related aspects for you (execution), with your organization taking on an informative role.
  • A hybrid approach: Together, we tailor the support to your preferences. What will you do, and what will we do?

Training

Our ISO 9001 support could also exist in the form of training. Our trainings are offered via our own training platform: The CAN Academy. We offer several ISO 9001 courses:

  • ISO 9001 knowledge course: During this one-day ISO 9001 standard knowledge course, we will tell you everything about the ISO 9001 standard, and there will be plenty of room for discussing real-life situations.
  • E-learning ISO 9001 knowledge course: In this online learning path, you will learn everything about (applying) ISO 9001. After purchasing the e-learning, you will gain immediate access to the online learning environment, where you can go through the e-learning at any time.
  • ISO 9001 practical course: During the one-day ISO 9001 practical training, you will learn everything you need to know to pragmatically implement the ISO 9001 standard in your organization.
  • ISO 9001 internal auditing course: During the internal auditing ISO 9001 course, you will learn everything about auditing an ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
  • ISO 9001 lead auditor course (IRCA): The ISO 9001 lead auditor training covers ISO 9001 standard knowledge, preparing and conducting audits (including role-play). The training meets the high standards of the IRCA (International Register of Certified Auditors) and is based on ISO 19011.

Outsourcing

Outsourcing can be temporary or long-term. The main options include:

  • Fully outsourcing a role or function within the organization. We take responsibility for planning and executing tasks related to the management system and certification under our “Officer as a Service” service. We could, for example, provide your company with an outsourced QHSE-manager (KAM-coördinator in Dutch).
  • Outsourcing specific parts of the management system and certification, such as conducting internal audits, supporting management reviews, raising employee awareness, and handling incidents or non-conformities.
  • Temporarily filling a vacant position through interim management.
